I hate to say it but most of the good ones are gone, and the ones that aren't gone are retired

Lefty, Patsy, Buck, Ernest... Grew up loving the music of America. A lot of it would be called "hokey" later on and today but the songs and sentiment
were just basic stuff that a lot of us understood and agreed with. Some really great music came out of western Canada as well - "Four Strong Winds".
My favorite place to listen to Country was in the Rendezvou in Mountain Home ID in the mid-60s; bunch of my fellow GIs met there on Friday evenings for the
music and the Olympia.

I grew up on this music as well. I remember sitting by the radio with my Grandmother. She came here from Poland as a young woman and for some reason was drawn
to this music. My Mom also became a fan so it was normal to hear this at our house all the time.
Regarding the current batch of country artists, a few years ago, Little Jimmy Dickens compared them to pop musicians and 1970s era southern rock bands. A few years ago, I picked up a collection of county music called Columbia Country Classics. Lots of good stuff on volumes 1, 2 and 3. Dan |

Yep. There's not much country about country music anymore. One in awhile someone will come along singing real music, but they don't get airtime and
don't last. I don't even bother with the radio anymore.
