When I was going to school, I worked in a retail liquor store. After I got out of the Army, I worked in this same store as a night clerk. There were times that people would come in and spend a hoard of silver coins at face value. One time, a customer came in and made a purchase with about 60 pre-1933 silver dollars. When would get any silver coins, I'd buy them out of the cash drawer.

During part of my postal career, I worked as a counter clerk and I'd sometimes get 90% silver coins tendered across the counter at face value. I'd set these aside in my drawer and buy them out later. One office I worked in was located near a retirement community and sometimes we'd get whole rolls of silver quarters and dimes. We'd ask the customer, "Are you sure you want to spend these?" and they would always say something like, "Oh, they're just money we've had around for a long time and now we want to spend them". Okay, lady, the customer is always right. We also would get occasional visitors from some foreign country, and once in a while they would spend some coins that they'd had around for years. Knowing they were going to the US, they would sometimes bring these coins with them to spend and I got a few that way.

In this same office, one of my co-workers was a would-be survivalist. He bought two .45 automatics, a bunch of shelf-stable foods, silver coins, and a bunch of other stuff. When he decided the Russians weren't coming, he started getting rid of all of it. I bought his two stainless steel .45's and all of his silver coins. Oh, he sold me his Ruger Mini-14 too.

I still have all the silver coins I've accumulated over the years. Those 2008 Silver Eagle bullion coins right now you can sell for $15.19 and buy for $17.44 but the prices change daily due to fluctuations in the price of the metal. Here's a link to other common silver prices:
